The Main Hall of the Coffin School
The display of the Egan Maritime Collection of the illustrative art by contemporary British artist Rodney Charman that depicts over 200 years of Nantucket history has been redesigned to better tell the story. Canvases depicting the native inhabitants and the early settlers, also focus on the major events such as the whale fishery era, the busy waterfront, the Great Fire of 1846, the Nantucket Railroad and the commerce on Main Street, just to name a few. Through more than twenty five paintings and their special labels, visitors will learn how the town of Nantucket has changed over the last 350 years, but is still easily recognizable today. This exhibition is only open to viewing during events at the Coffin School.

Storm Stories!
1991: An Island Remembers

Twenty years ago. Nantucket. The summer and fall of 1991. Two big storms, back-to- back. Two enormous events. One huge story. All having to do with the weather - the salty wind, the ocean and the rain, and its momentous effects on a tiny island 30 miles out at sea.
Come join us this season at the Shipwreck & Lifesaving Museum as we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Bob and The No-Name Storm, sharing with you the photographs and stories of the men and women who lived and worked here on Nantucket at that time. Like the storms themselves, surprises in this exhibit await you!
